When I started my first business back in 2004, I started it with so much optimism. I had just finished working for one of the largest investment banks in the world. I had my business degree in hand, had completed my diploma of financial planning allowing me to work as an advisor. I also had experience working for a small business in a completely different field. What more could I have done to be ready?

​My first few years in business were spent perfecting my craft, developing client strategies, improving my client experience. After a few years I had some very loyal clients, I was providing quality advice but my revenue growth was starting to stall. I needed to do something different so I bit the bullet and took on a business coach, I spent thousands of dollars, travelled to San Diego in the USA and improved my business and client experience even further. My fees more than doubled and I was converting more leads than previously before. My clients were also happier.

My Revenue though the GFC more than doubled, I was working hard, struggling to keep up with the workload. I was continually working on my business, reading as much as I could about building a successful business and then it struck me. "I had not created a business at all, I had created a job where I could work". You see for it to be a business, It would need to be able to operate without me there. While I managed to take 6 weeks holidays a year, I certainly couldn’t step away from the business. The business was intertwined with who I was, and to my clients I was the business.

​I have learnt a lot in the past 10 years since starting what I thought was my first business. One of the biggest things I learnt is that the skills required to be a good technician are completely different to the skills required to be a businessperson. To be a good businessman you really need to be 4 people. You need to be the entrepreneur, the manager, the salesman, and the technician.

I started The Success Club as there are so many technicians, just like I was, working hard, trying to build a business, but many with limited Success. Running a small business is hard enough and it is just getting harder. As a small business owner you don’t know what you don’t know. The Success Club has been founded to provide everyone, especially small business owners the tools, knowledge, and the accountability to build their business by design.

Since realising that I had built myself a job, my entrepreneurial spirit has taken hold. I am no longer just the technician. I built my financial planning practice up and sold it in 2012. Since then I have been working with business owners to build their businesses, while at the same time creating my own businesses.

We are all in business for one thing, and that is to live our ideal life. For me that is spending more time with family and friends. I am happily married to my wife Nicol with 3 young daughters, Jessica, Emily and Lily. Spending plenty of time with my kids like jumping in the pool with my kids when they get home from school is something that I try to achieve most days. I love my footy, (the mighty Broncos) and travelling the world, exploring, experiencing what the world has to offer. Not only that but I want to leave a mark on the world. When I leave this world I want people to say that I had a positive impact on their life. That I have managed to inspire them to create their ideal life like others have done for me. That is the purpose of The Success Club.
